Syxis Knowledge Labs: building expertise through collaboration
At Syxis, we strongly believe that people make the difference. Continuous learning, knowledge sharing, and staying ahead of emerging trends are essential in our work — especially in sectors that evolve as fast as Construction, Buildings, Neighborhoods, Textile, and Manufacturing.
This is why we have launched Syxis Knowledge Labs, our new internal training and knowledge-exchange programme: a series of in-house courses designed to strengthen skills, spread expertise across teams, and foster a culture of collaboration.
More than traditional training sessions, the Knowledge Labs are built around one simple principle: everyone can contribute, and everyone can learn.
We work as a squad — internally and with our partners — and these courses reflect exactly that mindset.
Learning from within
What makes Syxis Knowledge Labs truly distinctive is that they are driven by our own people.
Our team is composed of highly specialised professionals, each focused on specific domains — from sustainability to digital technologies, from circular economy to collaborative ecosystems. These same experts are deeply involved in the European projects we coordinate or contribute to, as well as in the consulting activities we deliver to clients.
Through the Knowledge Labs, they step into the role of trainers, sharing their know-how, practical experience, and lessons learned from real projects.
In this way, internal learning becomes a multiplier: expertise grows across the organisation, strengthening both our innovation capacity and the value we bring to partners and stakeholders.
The first course: Syxis 4 Sustainability – Climate Change
The programme kicked off with a multi-session course dedicated to one of today’s most urgent challenges: environmental sustainability.
Our first Knowledge Lab, “Syxis 4 Sustainability – Climate Change”, was delivered by Silvia Ghidini, our Sustainability Project Manager.
Silvia is an environmental engineer with strong programming skills and works on Horizon Europe projects focused on sustainability and circularity. Her hands-on experience from EU-funded research and innovation initiatives brought real-world insight into the sessions, connecting scientific knowledge with practical applications for industry and the built environment.
The course explored:
- the science behind climate change and greenhouse gas emissions
- how key economic sectors contribute to global warming
- the complexity of feedback loops and long-term climate dynamics
- the social and economic implications for communities and industries
- the role of individual and household actions in driving meaningful change
- practical, high-impact behaviours related to energy use, mobility, food systems, and waste reduction
The course highlighted a powerful message: climate change is complex, but many solutions are already within reach.
Everyday choices — when adopted collectively — can generate substantial impact and help accelerate broader technological and policy transitions.
Looking ahead: future Knowledge Labs
Sustainability is only the beginning.
Upcoming Syxis Knowledge Labs will focus on key themes that shape our projects and our vision for the built environment and industrial systems, including:
- Circular Economy and resource efficiency
- Digital technologies, such as data gathering, IoT, data spaces and Digital Product Passports (DPP)
- Co-creation and collaborative ecosystems
- New models for cross-sectoral innovation and stakeholder engagement
All these topics will be explored with a strong application focus on the sectors where Syxis operates: Construction, Buildings, Neighborhoods, Textile and Manufacturing.
A shared way of working
With Syxis Knowledge Labs, learning is not just about acquiring new information — it is about reinforcing our collective way of working.
We believe in openness, cooperation, and cross-fertilisation of ideas. The same spirit that drives our internal courses is the one we bring into partnerships, European research projects, and consulting engagements.
By investing in our people and in knowledge exchange, we continue to build a resilient, forward-looking organisation — ready to support sustainable and digital transformation across industries.
