A collective vision for more sustainable cities
Syxis is proud to organise “Cities by People: Learning to Co-Create Circular and Nature-Positive Futures”, an official satellite event of the New European Bauhaus Festival. The initiative explores how communities, citizens and local stakeholders can collaboratively imagine and shape more sustainable, inclusive and nature-positive urban futures through creativity, participation and co-creation.
The event will take place in Segrate, near Milan, a city where community-building initiatives and environmental actions are increasingly contributing to local sustainable development. Through an interactive and educational workshop, participants will discover how collaborative methodologies can help people collectively address urban challenges and imagine new ways of living together more sustainably.
“L’Alveare d’Oro”: A workshop about the circular economy in the city
The workshop, titled “L’Alveare d’Oro – Fiabe di una cottà circolare da creare”, will be held in Italian and designed as a playful and participatory experience for both children and adults. Through the writing of a fairy tale, children and adults will be invited to reflect on the challenges of their communities and collectively invent the story of the city they would like to live in.
Using fairy-tale cards and creative prompts, participants will work together to imagine sustainable urban futures starting from real community needs, environmental challenges and shared desires for change. The storytelling process becomes a tool for co-creation, allowing participants to transform ideas, emotions and everyday experiences into collective visions for more circular, inclusive and liveable cities.
Throughout the workshop, participants will learn together:
- to look at spaces, objects and materials with new eyes;
- to imagine, create and develop sustainable solutions collaboratively;
- to cooperate and share ideas, thoughts and perspectives.
Bringing the New European Bauhaus principles to life
The event reflects the New European Bauhaus principles by combining sustainability, inclusion and aesthetics into a hands-on collective experience. Rather than approaching sustainability only from a technical perspective, the workshop encourages imagination, dialogue and emotional connection as essential elements for designing better cities and stronger communities.
By reconnecting people with their communities, encouraging dialogue and fostering collective imagination, “Cities by People” fully embodies the New European Bauhaus vision of reconnecting with nature, promoting long-term thinking and regaining a sense of belonging.
The event is by Biblioteca di Segrate in collaboration with Syxis and Luciana Vilna Scalone.
