Knowledge creates value only when it is accessible, practical and shared. At Syxis, this principle guides the way we design digital platforms: transforming complex information into engaging and available experiences that help people learn, collaborate and drive innovation.
The INSET Industrial Symbiosis Observatory is a clear example of this approach. Developed by Syxis within the INSET project, the Observatory was created to make Industrial Symbiosis more accessible while fostering a growing community of businesses, researchers, public authorities and innovation actors committed to Europe’s circular transition.
Turning complexity into accessible knowledge
Industrial Symbiosis is a rapidly evolving field, yet much of its knowledge remains fragmented across different sources. Valuable resources, policies, case studies and training materials often exist in isolation, making them difficult to find, understand and apply.
To overcome this challenge, Syxis designed the INSET Industrial Symbiosis Observatory as a single digital environment where users can easily access reliable information, discover practical tools and explore successful experiences from across Europe.
Rather than creating a simple repository of documents, our goal was to build a platform that encourages continuous learning and makes knowledge immediately actionable.
A digital hub designed for learning and collaboration
Every section of the Observatory has been developed to support different users – from SMEs and policymakers to researchers, students and innovation professionals – offering content that is both accessible and relevant.
The platform brings together:
- educational resources on Industrial Symbiosis and the Circular Economy;
- policy frameworks and legislative references;
- training materials that strengthen knowledge and skills;
- practical case studies showcasing successful initiatives across Europe;
- an interactive map allowing users to explore Industrial Symbiosis projects and discover best practices geographically.
By integrating these resources into a single digital experience, the Observatory helps transform information into inspiration, supporting both learning and the replication of successful approaches.
Building communities through knowledge sharing
For Syxis, digital platforms are not only about technology – they are about people.
Every platform we develop is designed to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, encourage collaboration and strengthen communities around shared challenges. The INSET Observatory follows the same philosophy, creating a digital space where organisations can discover new ideas, learn from existing experiences and connect through a common vision of sustainability.
This focus on knowledge sharing and community building has always been at the core of our work. The Observatory demonstrates how digital solutions can go beyond information management to become catalysts for dialogue, cooperation and innovation.
A platform designed to grow
The Observatory was conceived as a living resource rather than a static project output. Its structure allows new initiatives, learning materials and case studies to be continuously integrated, ensuring that the platform evolves alongside the Industrial Symbiosis ecosystem.
While the INSET project provided the framework for its development, the Observatory reflects a broader commitment that defines Syxis’ approach: creating digital ecosystems that generate value long after a project comes to an end.
By connecting knowledge, people and best practices, the INSET Industrial Symbiosis Observatory shows how digital innovation can support the transition towards a more circular economy – turning information into collaboration, and collaboration into lasting impact.
