ReBoat
Circular Solution for Sustainable Tourism in EU Islands by Movable Plant (Boat) and Co-Creation with Island Stakeholders
START: 1 January 2025
END: 30 June 2028
ReBoat aims at designing, developing and demonstrating a novel decentralized systemic circular solution, exploiting a mobile, modular, sorting, recycling and reprocessing plant on Boat that will handle waste generation peaks in islands on demand, locally transforming waste into new products meeting the needs of island citizens and tourists.
Through an Island Participatory Approach supported by Collaborative Digital tools, ReBoat aims at CoCreating an active and conscious island demand for creative solutions for the recycling and upcycling of collected waste objects and materials, primarily focusing on plastics and textile, coming from the local environment.
Specifically, in Ionian (GR), Eolian (IT) and Azores (PT), the island ecosystem of citizens, tourists, artists, designers, architects and small artisans will be activated, committed to building a sustainable and inclusive system together.
Syxis in the project:
Syxis will lead several activities including the deployment of a tailored co-creation tool (starting from the already existing Idea Manager technology) for stakeholders’ engagement, to be adapted to different insular environments. Moreover, SYX will enable the knowledge transfer process from pilot experience to stakeholders’ communities, by the use of a ReBoat customised version of the proprietary Hub4Learn Platform, which will deliver a set of new training formats for individual and collective learning. SYX will also play a pivotal role in scheduling logistic management of waste collection and reprocessing, deploying a cloud based multi-sided platform that will serve as on-board boat IoT system. Lastly, Syxis will handle the setup of the project’s legal, ethical and social assessment framework, to analyse and monitor the impact of the project on society and its compliance with all legal, ethical and societal applicable rules.
